IVF injections

IVF is a daunting and often stressful experience for patients. Naturally, many patients build up a fear and anxiety about what the treatment involves, particularly the injections, which doesn’t ever seem as bad once they get through the other side. If you are soon to be starting IVF treatment, read on for some tips and advice.

First of all, it’s wise to read about the process of IVF as much as you can, both in books, on the Internet and even in forums where you can chat to other people who have been through similar struggles as you. During your appointment with the doctors, be sure to ask as many questions as possible. Essentially, the idea is to educate yourself as best you can so that you understand what will be involved in your IVF journey. This will help it feel a little less terrifying. The doctors and previous patients will help put your mind at ease about the injections.

While it can be tough when you’re feeling stressed and emotional, try and get plenty of sleep. You need to allow your body to rest and rejuvenate throughout the process. This applies to your diet as well; make sure you eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and avoid alcohol and cigarettes.

When it comes to the injections, it really is mind over matter. Try and reframe in your mind the way you think about them; they are just a helpful tool that will potentially bring you closer to your future child, not a big scary needle. Ice will help numb the area and if you’re really struggling you could ask someone else to administer the injection for you, like a partner or a friend. Eventually you will get used to it and will feel very little, if any, pain. After all, practice makes perfect!

IVF goes on for a number of weeks and it can be both physically and emotionally challenging. Try and seek as much support and advice from friends, family and your doctors to help get you
