pregnancy

To improve your chances of getting pregnant and having a healthy baby there are some important changes that you will need to make.

Follow these simple steps to help prepare yourself and your body for pregnancy…

See your doctor

If you are planning to get pregnant it is a good idea to visit your GP and have a full health check. Your doctor will be able to assess your medical history and discuss any health concerns. They will also be able to offer advice and inform you on which vaccines are available.

Healthy diet

It is important to maintain a healthy body weight if you are trying to conceive.
Being overweight during pregnancy can lead to complications, such as high blood pressure or diabetes and can increase your chances of miscarriage.
Try to keep to a balanced diet and follow a healthy lifestyle to prepare your body for pregnancy.
Reduce sugary drinks and caffeine and increase the amount of fruit and vegetables in your diet. You can also seek advice from your doctor about taking a vitamin supplement with folic, to give your body what it needs during pregnancy.

Exercise often

Try to exercise regularly, even just a short walk each day can help you to prepare your body for the many changes pregnancy can cause. You can also continue this type of exercise throughout your pregnancy, however it is important to talk to your doctor or midwife about what kind of exercise is safe for you.

Quit smoking and alcohol

It is really important to your health and the health of your baby to quit smoking and refrain from drinking alcohol, before and during pregnancy. This is because they can both reduce your chances of conceiving and harm your baby. It is also vital to discuss any medicine you are currently taking with your doctor to check that it is safe during pregnancy.
