More and more people are choosing to have acupuncture alongside their fertility treatment here at Concept Fertility. Many have already chosen their acupuncturist before they approach us and we are happy to work with them as we believe that improving a person’s general wellbeing can only improve their chances of a successful outcome to their fertility treatment. We also work more closely with a small number of independent wellbeing practitioners who we know, who have specialised in fertility, and who have access to our doctors and embryologists for information. One of these is Ian Prytherch.
Ian became an Acupuncture Specialist in Fertility and IVF support over eight years ago. He has since helped more than a thousand couples who have successfully conceived and he runs busy clinics in Wimbledon and Wimpole Street W1.
Ian says that when we have difficulty starting a family, it is one of the most emotional challenges in the world. Coming to terms with the fact that others around you (friends /family) are happily announcing their pregnancies, and the sudden realisation that things aren’t going quite to plan for you, can be overwhelming. One of the most challenging aspects of the infertility experience is dealing with the emotional ups and downs, the uncertainty about outcomes, and the challenge of having to make important decisions such as “how long should I try for” or “when should I start looking into medical treatment”.
Why Should I Have Acupuncture?
This is a question that Ian says he is often asked. He replies that IVF is a fantastic treatment that helps thousands of couples to conceive every year. It can be a difficult process to go through and can be emotional physically and financially challenging and for the main part the medical side of the process tends to focus on the female. Most couples therefore want to go through the process as few times as possible so my advice is to do everything you can do to pro-actively enhance your chances of success.
It is important to learn how to take care of ourselves, make sure we that get the support we need, and to manage our emotions so that our self-esteem and outlook on life remain as positive as possible.
I believe that ultimately through Acupuncture, lifestyle changes and nutritional advice you will give yourself the best possible chance of conceiving. I’m happy to speak with you by ‘phone or you are welcome to see me at one of my clinics for a free consultation – I believe that it is really important that you trust and feel comfortable with your practitioner. Concept Fertility and Acupuncture
Concept Fertility’s view is that acupuncture is not for everyone. You may have no need to improve your wellbeing, you may prefer to do it on your own, or you may simply not believe in or like acupuncture. But if you are going to choose acupuncture, you should choose someone who is knowledgeable about fertility and who you feel comfortable with. As with so many other things, trust your own judgement.
